Hamilton Cemetery, Marshall Country Ms.
Article & Photos by Angela L MSSPI Co Founder
Recently, Tony & I did a daytime, Findagrave research project here at Hamilton, photographing headstones and documenting names and dates in order to create memorials for the deceased on the Findagrave.com website. This African American cemetery is nestled in an open field down a dirt driveway back in the woods off a backroad several miles south of Holly Springs, Ms. We spent several hours here taking photos and doing evp sessions. There are headstones that date from the late 1800s to the present , I personally documented at least 150 gravesites here. There are several unmarked gravesites, evidenced by sinking ground and a few field stone markers with no inscriptions that appear to be grave markers.
Tony and I both had personal experiences while researching this cemetery.
Tony heard voices and women laughing when he did an EVP session in the back corner of the cemetery, while he was waiting for me to finish my photographs. He also stated he felt like he was being followed and watched while walking through the cemetery. He also thought he saw shadows move.
I had the feeling someone was following me and on several occasions I smelled the strong scent of gardenia perfume, although we could find no live flowers in the cemetery or surrounding foilage that would suggest such. I also had to sit down on a few occasions as I became dizzy and slightly nauseated for several minutes for no apparent reason. At the time I felt the stron urge to take a photo of the surrounding wooed area. Although, I did not see an apparition, I did think I saw movement from the corner of my eye on several occasions but saw no one there. The following photo is one of those.
There were several hits on our K2 meters with no local explainations. We recorded several EVP in this cemetery and have plans to return to this cemetery as soon as weather is permitting to do a ghost box session experiment as well as a more thourough investigation. I will keep you informed of any further activity we experiences.
